George F. Walker | Playwright | Director

George F. Walker is one of Canada’s most prolific and popular playwrights. Since beginning his theatre career in the early 1970s, Walker has written more than 30 plays and has created screenplays for several award-winning Canadian television series. Among his best known plays are Filthy Rich (1979); Zastrozzi (1977); Theatre of the Film Noir (1980); Criminals in Love (1984); Better Living (1986); Nothing Sacred (1988); Love and Anger (1989); Escape from Happiness (1991); Tough! (1993); Suburban Motel (1997, a series of six plays set in the same motel room); Heaven (2000); And So It Goes (2010); and Dead Metaphor (2013). Since the early 1980s he has directed most of the premieres of his own plays. Walker’s plays have been presented in more than 700 productions across Canada, the United States, and around the world; they have been translated into French, German, Hebrew, Turkish, Polish, Hungarian, Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, and Japanese. Awards and honours include The Order of Canada, two Governor General’s awards, five Dora Mavor Moore Awards, nine Chalmers Canadian Play Awards, and the Governor General’s lifetime achievement award.

Liz Best | MAGGIE | Moss Theatre Collective Member

Liz is an actor, director, playwright, and producer. Recent acting credits include: The Children, Immaculate Emasculation, and I Love You More. Liz has directed at the Toronto Fringe Festival, FireWorks Festival, Marion Abbott Productions, and Toronto Queer Theatre Festival. Recent directing credits include: Better Living (Alumnae Theatre) and History of Visual Sources (FireWorks Festival). Liz is a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada. Her plays have been performed at Alumnae Theatre, Palace Theatre, Kincardine Theatre Guild, and Curtain Club. Readings of her work have been done at PAL (Performing Arts Lodge), Target Theatre, Village Players, and 4th Line. Liz co-produced Tunnel At The End Of The Light for the Roland Gossage Foundation last year. Liz is one of the founding members of Moss Theatre Collective.

Elizabeth Friesen | JAYNE | Moss Theatre Collective Member

Elizabeth is a Toronto-based actor, singer, storyteller, playwright, director, and dramaturge. An out-of-the-box thinker who enjoys creative collaboration and experimentation, she is always looking to expand her community of like-minded individuals. She is a founding member of Moss Theatre Collective, as well as an active member of Alumnae Theatre, the Village Playhouse, Haven Theatre, and ACT II Studio at TMU. Her most recent stage performances include lead roles in The Children, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and The Female of the Species, as well as performances in two Toronto Fringe Festival plays (Back to the Bar in 2023 and The Apartment in 2024). Upcoming productions include Shadows in the Nooks and an as yet unnamed solo production. Elizabeth is the loving mother of two incredible young people and eight frisky felines. She spends a good part of every day experimenting in the kitchen and picking cat hair off her clothing.

Lori Delorme | Producer | Assistant Director | Moss Theatre Collective Member

Lori is a Toronto-based director and producer. She is a co-founder of No Model Types Productions, and Just in a Bowl Productions, with whom she co-wrote and acted in two plays, Unsinkable and The Hungarian Suicide Duel, both performed as part of the Fringe Festival across Canada. Previously for Alumnae Theatre Company, Lori directed The Children, Governing Ourselves, B to Z, and Belle Darling Klondike Queen, and co-produced Top Girls. She acted as dramaturge for Scrambled Eggs (No Model Types), B to Z, and Belle Darling Klondike Queen (Alumnae). She is grateful to the fierce women of Moss Theatre Collective, for being such good engines and making it all happen.

A director, actor, and producer, Cassidy is passionate about new works, immersive experiences, and experimental theatre. She is a co-founder of Moss Theatre Collective, and Alumnae Theatre’s seasonal speakeasy cabaret, the Studio Open Mic. She is a company member of Live History, whose site-specific work can be seen internationally. Cassidy is the Associate Producer at Roseneath Theatre. Additional credits include: The Seqret City and The Curious Voyage (DopoLavoro Teatrale); Back to the Bar (Sidestreet Theatre/Toronto Fringe); A Tonic for Desperate Times (Theatre Gargantua); The Pride of Life and Mankind (Poculi Ludique Societas/Stan’s Cafe/Metropolitan Museum of Art). Shannon Farrell | Stage Manager

Shannon Farrell (she/they) is a stage manager, playwright, and poet from Mississauga. Their stage-managing credits include World After Dark (Shannon Litzenberger), Belle Darling Klondike Queen (Alumnae Theatre), hang (Obsidian Theatre), Clinic (A Collective of 7). Playwriting credits include Tendencies (Start The Riot Theatre), North of Orion (Start The Riot Theatre) and Silence S’il Vous Plait (Illusion, Coffee and Poetry). Her further writing credits include co-writer on the fiction podcast “Howl”.

Douglas Tiller | Set Designer

Douglas Tiller trained in film, doing everything from location management to post-production, but his true passion is woodwork. With a preference for clean, modern lines, he designed and built two local Leslieville businesses, Mercury Espresso and Hitch, and is the owner of Southpaw Built, a local carpentry shop. In his first theatrical experience, Douglas created stage props for Alumnae’s production of B to Z, and then went on to his first full production design, building a moss-covered cottage on the Alumnae Studio stage for The Children. He’s very excited to be working with the Moss Theatre Collective on this production of George F. Walker’s Fierce.

Alysson Bernabe | Scenic Painter

Alysson is a 2019 TMU graduate who does Scenic Painting, Props and Set Design. Alysson previously worked with Alumnae Theatre as the Set Designer for the 2023 New Ideas Festival, and is thrilled to be returning as a Scenic Painter!

Daniel Shiels | Lighting Designer

Daniel is a North Carolinian turned Torontonian and classically trained musician moonlighting as a lighting designer/technician. He spent much of his university and school years performing in ensembles of all sizes: jazz bands, concert bands, symphonic bands, pit orchestras, and NC State University’s Marching Band. Outside of Alumnae, Daniel works in Information Technology and enjoys road cycling, Dungeons & Dragons, and playing video games with friends.

Andrew Honor | Sound Designer

Andrew Honor is a filmmaker, composer, and sound designer. He is interested in creating new worlds from found sounds, and building emotional moments for audiences to experience. He has composed music for various film projects, produced pop music in Toronto and Guelph, and most recently designed the sound for Alumnae Theatre’s 2024 productions of The Children and A Little Bite of Paradise (New Ideas Festival).

Fabiana Mercurio | Props & Costume Designer

Fabiana holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Production from York University. Her recent credits include costume designer for Alumnae Theatre’s Better Living, as well as for the Milton Players’ Steel Magnolias. She also has experience as assistant talent manager for Fever/Netflix’s Stranger Things: The Experience. Fabiana is always enthused to be immersed in the challenge of costuming, so when she was also given the opportunity to design props for Fierce, she could hardly say no. Nothing lights her up more than exploration, and George and the entire team encouraged her to do so by trusting her in these two roles. Fabiana would like to thank the cast and crew for their drive to play, create, and discover together.

Trisha Harlan | Publicity Manager

Trisha Harlan is a dedicated artist and producer based in Ajax. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Film Studies from McMaster University and is currently pursuing a diploma in Business Administration from the same institution. With a rich focus on creative writing and a deep passion for arts administration, Trisha is driven by a heartfelt longing to see women who look like her hold leadership roles both on and off the stage in theatre. She brings a diverse skill set and unwavering dedication to her work within the arts community.

Sarah Kaufmann | Social Media Manager

Sarah Kaufmann (she/they) is a performer, marketer, and copywriter. They recently co-created and performed in Madame Winifred’s Circus of Wonders at the Toronto Fringe (Winner of the Kids Fest Patron’s Pick). As a marketer, Sarah is passionate about helping arts organizations step into their spotlight online. She has had the pleasure of collaborating with Phoenix Arts & Aga Khan Museum, Studio Brandstof, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and Solar House Productions.
